Community Spring Lunch

We invited local residents to share a lunch with our sixth formers

Report by Ms Price

On Thursday 3rd May Our Lady’s Convent High School hosted its third Spring Community Lunch for over 35 local guests. The meal represented a culmination of the 6th Form’s Servite Community Service programme which is delivered through their CORE RE. This year our Year 12 and 13 students completed 14 weeks of placements in over 20 local community settings; including charities, care homes and primary schools.

This particular gathering encapsulated the faith in action ethos of the school and for this group of students in particular, it provided a valuable space to demonstrate the hospitality that the Servite founders envisioned at the heart of this faith community.

Guests were served a two course meal prepared by the school’s Head of Catering and her team, whilst students had prepared for the event in advance by making decorations and individual place settings. On the day they assisted with serving of the meal and drinks and enjoyed spending time getting to know their guests.

The atmosphere was so relaxed that the students, staff and guests even sang and danced together following an impromptu visit from Mr Khwaja and Mr Piha who warmed them up before the party play-list took over.

During the teas and cakes specially prepared mementos (Our Lady’s personalised key rings and cake parcels) were shared as a parting gift for our guests.
