BHM Art Workshop

We welcomed ex pupil Ese for a workshop on Black women who have made a difference in the world.

As part of our celebration of Black History Month, the Art department welcomed Hackney artist (and former pupil) Ese Akpojotor. Ese ran two workshops with the Year 9 and Year 10 Art students based on Black Heroines. The aim of the workshop was to show the girls that Black women have made lots of positive contributions not just to the Black community but to the world.

The students took inspiration from Ese’s work and designed pieces that reflected the women that they respect and admire. The women who were depicted in the art work ranged from Olympic athlete Shelly-Ann Frasey-Pryce to Princess Tiana from the Princess and the Frog.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and the opportunity that it gave them to really think about the Black women in the world who have made a difference.
