History and French trip to La Somme 2016
Before Easter, 34 year 9 girls went on a History and French trip to la Somme. They spent a day viewing the First World War battlefield sights in the Somme area, and learnt more about what it would have been like to fight in the trenches.
They heard first-hand about one soldier’s experience, who managed to survive the first day of the battle, but saw many around him fall.
Pupils were also able to experience some French culture, through a treasure hunt showing them the features of a local town, and practicing their French language through shopping!
Here are some opinions of the trip from the girls:
"I personally feel that the trip to La Somme was fun and educational. I found out how much soldiers suffered during that period and how it has affected La Somme region today" - Humu Hawa
"Personally I found the trip very insightful into the World War period. It was very moving to learn about all those young men who gave their life to their country" - Joy
