My Experience as a Boy in Year 13 at Our Lady’s

What made a difference for me in those early days were my teachers.

Jeremy, Head Boy, 6th Form

My name is Jeremy, and I am currently a Year 13 student at Our Lady’s Catholic High School, currently studying Business and Information Technology. I have been at the school since September 2022 and I’m working towards achieving my BTEC certificates. Despite starting my journey here just over a year ago, I have already formed lasting friendships that I cherish.

The initial mix of excitement and nervousness filled me when I first arrived at this school. The unfamiliar faces, routines and surroundings were enough to make anyone feel uneasy. This was mainly because I was going to a predominantly girls school. However, what made a difference for me in those early days were my teachers. Their warm greetings and genuine interest in helping me adapt to the new environment played a crucial role. Their dedication, willingness to guide me, answer my questions, and create a nurturing atmosphere made me feel a sense of belonging.

Their support eased our transition and set the stage for a positive learning experience at the school.

I’ll be honest with you, starting a journey at a new school can be both thrilling and nerve-wracking. It is a long journey filled with new experiences, opportunities and challenges. But, remember you won't be alone in this. There are people here to support you every step of the way, making sure that your time here at Our Lady’s isn’t only educational but memorable and fulfilling too.

As students, each and everyone of you will bring a diverse set of backgrounds, talents and aspirations to our school. I am encouraging you to embrace this and engage with your peers. Making friends, learning from each other and adopting a sense of unity will also better your school experience. At Our Lady’s we believe in nurturing personal growth and not only academic achievements. Our school offers a wide range of clubs, extracurricular activities and opportunities so you can explore your passion.

Lastly, Remember that education isn’t confined to the classroom. Our Lady's will help you use your time to engage in discussions, attend relevant events and deepen your understanding in your interests. It will be a place where you can embrace every moment of your journey here, and will be a safe place to seek help or guidance when needed.

I will open an envelope in August this year and fingers crossed I will get my predicted grades of D*D in BTEC Business and D* in BTEC ICT.  I am guaranteed an university of my choice.  I will look truthfully and know that choosing Our Lady's was an excellent decision - finishing with superb grades gained through hard work and the support of teachers, attending university having received the support of the school, tutors and Mr Bailey.  I would advise anyone to ensure they attend Our Lady's.
