On Friday, 3rd March 10 students from Year 9 were lucky enough to get the chance to go to SOAS University for World Book Day.
Report by Sophie Rowley and Myliesha Coutinho 9M
We completed a range of workshops throughout the day from: book marketing, where we got a chance to see some of the first ever books written. A study of fables where we got the chance to read fables from around the world, the history of Mesopotamia, where we read a story about a half-god and half-human called Gilgamesh. Additionally, we learnt about the history of Timbuktu where we saw how books developed over the years in many countries and were able to take part in a Japanese workshop where we looked at English and Japanese fairy tales and looked at their differences and similarities. They were all very interesting and developed our understanding of books a lot.
There were many different schools there so we got the chance to meet many different people and work with them throughout the day. At the end of the day we had a tour around the University and were able to meet the students that went there which gave us a really good idea of what it was like to go to a university that specialises in over 60 languages. It was a very interesting day and we all really enjoyed it so we thank all the teachers that organised and took us there.
Happy World Book Day!
