Ex OLCHS Student Theatre Debut Receives Rave Reviews
EX OLCHS Student Theresa Ikoko has penned her first play 'Girls'
The incredibly talented Theresa Ikoko studied at OLCHS before studying for her undergraduate degree at Royal Holloway University of London, followed by her masters at Oxford University. Her first play 'Girls' has received rave reviews and has been since published by Bloomsbury.
It is a 'pungent, provocative work, exploring what it means to be female in today’s world' but with this delves into many deeper issues as the story is of a friendship between three young women who are abducted by a militant group from a village in an unnamed African country.
Theresa notes her English teacher Ms Whyte as a huge inspiration as Theresa said, 'She had incredibly high expectations of us, which, although we didn't always appreciate it, made us see our potential.'
Her play, first aired at Hightide Festival at Aldeburgh, Suffolk, has been cited as 'clever, audacious, entertaining and full of promise.'
We are so proud of Theresa and all the hard work that has gone into a truly thought-provoking play.
Girls will feature as part of the British Council Edinburgh Showcase 2017 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
