Nathania - Head Girl, 6th Form

A Journey Through Our Lady's: From “Year 7 to Year 13"

Attending Our Lady's has provided me with many different opportunities which I believe I would have not been able to access if I did not decide to continue my journey here and I am very happy that I remained here.

Nathania - Head Girl, 6th Form

My name is Nathania and I am the current Head Girl here at Our Lady's Catholic High School. Currently I am studying A-levels in Politics, Economics and History.

I have been attending Our Lady’s since 2017 when I first joined the school in year 7 and have followed through with my studies here all the way till year 13. Throughout my time here I have been able to make so many friends while also building strong relationships with all my teachers and for that I am very grateful.

Year 11 was a very stressful time for all of us as we knew we had to sit our GCSE exams in the summer. However, all the teachers encouraged us to do our best when we felt like giving up. They made sure we were able to understand the work in order to gain excellent grades. They did this by ensuring to go over work students may have not understood the first time, providing us with extra lessons after school in order to boost our knowledge and understanding, providing spaces for students to learn within the study zone before and after school and most importantly having patience with us.

With my dedication and hard work paired with the support and encouragement from my teachers and Head of Year, Mrs Adams, I was able to pass all 8 of my subjects with grade 7s in Maths, English, Geography and a grade 8 in Drama. On results day I had to make the decision of whether I was going to stay at Our Lady's and continue my journey or start a new one at a different school. Eventually I decided to stay and I am very grateful I did due to all the opportunities provided to me by being a part of our Sixth Form.

In year 12, once every week the school was able to bring in a range of different guest speakers to talk more about their careers in order to allow students to start thinking about their career paths. This allowed us to discover and broaden our knowledge on the different types of careers and what we would like to do beyond Sixth Form. During these sessions students were allowed to ask questions on different topics and learn more about these careers. We also had the opportunity to attend a university fair at Tottenham Hotspur stadium where we were able to find out more information on different universities around the uk and also about different apprenticeship opportunities available to us. I have also been able to participate in lots of various work experiences including Law and Finance in order to help me decide what path I would like to take in the future.

Attending Our Lady's has provided me with many different opportunities which I believe I would have not been able to access if I did not decide to continue my journey here and I am very happy that I remained here.

In the wise words of Nelson Mandela:

‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.’

Young people don’t allow anyone to make you believe that you can't achieve or do certain things due to your age, work hard and believe in yourselves.

Finally I would like to leave you all with this bible verse from 1 Timothy chapter 4 verse 12. Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in Purity.
